Cassette
Converter
Do you view with nostalgia your collection of music dating back
many years and wish that you had copied it on other media before your cassettes had started gathering dust? Don’t
you wish that you had found options for transferring from your cassettes much earlier? Well, it is never too late.
You can now use a cassette converter for converting all your music to a digital format.
Convert Cassettes to CD, MP3 or other Digital Formats
There are basically two types of cassette converter options
available to you. The first option involves a piece of equipment that allows you to transfer music from your
cassettes onto your computer or MP3 player.

When you transfer the music onto your computer, you
can save it in different file formats such as MP3, WAV, WMA or AAC. After the
music is saved, you have the option of writing it onto a CD; hence this type of equipment is sometimes called a
cassette to CD converter.
You will find different options when you look for the first type
of cassette converter in terms of brands and technical details. You will need a tape to computer USB cassette deck.
It will enable you to convert music quickly from your cassettes to your computer on CD or MP3 format, or convert
the audio directly into iTunes if you wish, and then it will be ready to be enjoyed on your favorite
speakers.
You will have the facility of a dual dubbing cassette desk; and a
plug and play USB audio interface which will not require any drivers. The cassette deck can play both Metal and
CrO2 tapes. The advantage with this converter is that it is compatible with both the Mac and the PC.
Another option when you want to convert cassettes to CD or
MP3, is the one that lets you capture from any analog source of audio such as a cassette, turntable with
preamp (discs), TV, Radio or DVD. This very versatile converter lets you save music on MP3, WAV, WMA and AAC iPod
digital audio formats. It also lets you burn CD’s of professional quality.
Other cassette converters use MP3
compression to play and digitize audio tapes, to convert your music from at least 25 cassettes into less than 700
MB of file space; in other words, it would all fit into one CD. For a specific cassette to MP3 converter, check out the
Plusdeck model on the next page, or the Grace Digital converter!
Car Audio Cassette Converters

Another category of less advanced ‘cassette
converters’ involves the connection of your CD player or MP3 player to the cassette player in your car,
or even a stand-alone unit. This requires the use of a car cassette adapter. Some of these car
cassette adapters / converters can be connected to the iPod as well.

Hence, you can actually play back the music which is on your iPod
or MP3 player through your car stereo. The mechanism is silent and reduces
mechanical noise on the road. The cassette head is
spring loaded and helps to maintain contact with the tape head in order to ensure clarity of sound.
There are innumerable brands in car cassette adapters which can be
used when you want a cassette converter. However, do keep in mind that they all won’t be of the same quality. You
will need to do a little survey and check out which one meets your requirements. None of these are expensive so you
don’t have to base your decision on price.
